Cold-formed aluminum and steel materials

Casting and forging of aluminum alloy materials

The production and processing methods are different, so the characteristics of the use are also completely different.

Casting

Cold-formed aluminum and steel materials

Casting rims are manufactured by casting molten aluminum into a sand mold, and after cooling and forming, they undergo mechanical processing (deburring, trimming, and polishing).

Forging

For forging, a steel mold is used to place the heated and softened aluminum block into it, which is then formed by stamping, and then processed by machining after cooling.

Features

Casting is easy to mass-produce, and forging is more complicated due to the complicated process, so the manufacturing cost is relatively high. However, the forged wheel hub is produced because the aluminum block is continuously punched during the production process, so after forming, its molecular structure will become very tight, so it can withstand more High pressure, so under the same size and strength, forged wheels are lighter than cast wheels.

Furthermore, because the forged wheel has a compact structure and can withstand high stresses, it can design some more lively thin spokes in terms of shape design, and the degree of design freedom is also higher. However, the price of forged wheels is also higher. Casting wheels are much higher, so they are basically used in high-end cars that focus on handling.

Those high-performance supercars all use forged wheels without exception.

Is the car body structure material better than aluminum or formed steel?

Aluminum is light but not as hard as steel. Steel structure is heavier than aluminum.
The key to hardness stronger than aluminum depends on whether you want strength and weight or lightness and speed.

What is the cold bending performance of steel

The performance that steel can withstand bending without breaking at room temperature, the degree of bending generally uses the bending angle
α
(External angle) or bend center diameter d
For material thickness
a
The ratio of represents,
a
Bigger or
d/a
The smaller the value, the better the cold bending performance of the material.

What are the meanings of plasticity, toughness and cold bending properties of steel

Plasticity of steel

It refers to the capacity of steel that can maintain permanent deformation under the action of external force without destroying its integrity (no fracture or damage).

Toughness of steel

It is the ability of steel to absorb energy during plastic deformation and fracture. The better the toughness, the lower the possibility of brittle fracture.

Cold bending performance of steel

It means that the steel can withstand the maximum bending without breaking performance at room temperature.

Cold Bending

Cold bending performance and toughness are important mechanical performance indicators to measure the ability of steel to produce plastic deformation during processing.

What is the difference between alloy steel and aluminum alloy steel

There are many types of alloy steel. As far as aluminum alloy steel is concerned, its plasticity is much higher than ordinary steel, and its texture is lighter, but the corresponding hardness and strength are not as good as some alloy steels.
As far as construction is concerned, alloy steel is used for frame, while aluminum alloy steel still tends to be decorative

What kind of forming method usually refers to cold forming

Now cold bending means that the strip is gradually bent through many roll units and then formed into the desired product shape.

The characteristics of the aluminum and steel of the bicycle frame

Generally, aluminum bicycle frames are harder than steel frames. There is no elasticity. You will feel sore after riding for a long time. However, steel has a little internal toughness, that is, elastic capacity. It can absorb relatively small vibrations.
Therefore, the waist will not be uncomfortable if you ride for a long time. However, the steel frame is heavier than the aluminum frame, so generally there are more aluminum frames especially for competitions. A lighter steel frame like the Daimyo DBR is very good. But it is not available now.

What is the difference between cold forming and thermoforming for mechanical material forming? What materials are mainly processed?

The difference between cold forming and hot forming of mechanical material forming

Thermoforming

Hot forming is mainly for forging.
The forging and pressing of the workpiece blank in the unheated state is cold forming, and the forging and pressing in the heated state is hot forming. The hot forming is divided into temperature forging and hot forging, and the temperature is different.
Not only stainless steel, but also other materials when forging. Mainly used to process steel parts.

Cold forming

It is the processing method of punching, bending and stretching the material without heating.
The cold forming process includes cold heading, cold rolling, die forging and so on.

The main advantages of cold formed steel structure:

  1. Compared with thicker hot-rolled steel, cold-formed steel can be processed into smaller loads and shorter spans.
  2. Through cold forming, unusual cross-sectional shapes can be economically obtained, and a satisfactory strength-to-weight ratio can be obtained.
  3. Considering the compact type of packaging and transportation, nestable cross-sections can be produced.
  4. No expansion or deformation under environmental gravity.
